Unlikely Heroes

The Cry of the Killer, Framed and the Festival

After an attack on the fishing fleet. The party was hired to disable the pirate fleet on the island to the east of the town. The party was successful in stealing the three main ships of the fleet and burning the docks, while dispatching a majority of the crews on the ship. A second party seemingly coincidentally attacked the pirate town and told the party to flee with the ships and that they would finish off the town. The party made off with the ships and were rewarded the largest ship named “The Cry of the Killer”

A poor attempt to frame the group as the vandals of the King’s statue, the party was able to investigate and exonerate themselves finding the true vandals to be the sons of the nobles.

On the day of the festival a strange high elf was sitting in the inn and was seen with Shabu’s ancestor axe shaft. He told them the location that he found the shaft so that the party could investigate the area. The trail took them to small valley where the party found the axe head of Shabu’s axe and were ambushed by a group containing the same elf, two hobgoblins, a shardmind and a halfling. After receiving more wounds than they could give the ambushers fled using a magical amulet that transported them away. A note was found saying they were to ambush and recapture the party for Nilligzem.

They returned to the town repaired Shabu’s axe and attended the festival’s opening ceremony where the party was to receive their reward for their many services to the town. In the middle of the governor’s long speech the King Kamar Ignimorcir the III jumped on to the stage outraged at the treatment of the people of Egru and was about to slay the king when suddenly a third figured emerged from a portal. The third figure, the Mage Maxeray, blasted the king off of the stage knocking him unconscious and a second blast of power disintegrated the governor. The party was soon beset by Maxeray and after a long battle the party was subdued by magic lightning nets from the sky. Just as the party was to be teleported away a golden dragon flew in and started to battle Maxeray freeing the party. Chaos erupted as multiple groups were all seen fighting each other. The party ran towards the docks and once on the boat was blasted to an unknown tropical region with a large part of the town that had also fled from the docks. Another crystal appeared that seemingly had a connection to Shamash after the magic of the teleportation channeled by the two other crystals had ended.

Finding land the party and townsfolk set up camp for the night. The next morning a copper dragon was found on the shore and told the party about the Ascension Crystal and the party’s link to it.
The party set off to the northeast to find the seventh person linked to the Ascension crystal as the townsfolk set about making a life in this new land.

Who needs a stinkin tagline?

The halfling Chieftan Binban stood, cornered, in the remains of what was once his throne room. The party battled him and rather handily dispatched him. After going through the cave they scavenged serviceable items to be used in case of further bloody encounters. They also found a note suggesting that the crystal that was locked up with them was being pursued by other and had more value than it would suggest based on appearances.
They soon heard a clamoring outside. The voices were different however and turned out to be from the local militia of the town of Egru. The militia was relieved to find that this halfling compound had already been destroyed by the party. The Captain offered to bring back the party and be rewarded for it’s aid.
The town was genuinely thankful for the destruction of the menace that had loomed so near the town. The governor of the town however was condescending and seeking to use this event to further his own image in the town. The ceremony was brief and the party headed towards the inn.
At the inn, the promise of a free room turned out to have been lost in the bureaucracy and there was no place for them to rest. The innkeeper struck a deal with the party to help him with a rat problem that was pestering his storehouse. Upon investigation of the problem they found it was a larger cave that led to the ocean that for a brief time had a rat problem. The storeroom was ruined, but the innkeeper decided to board it up and make a new storehouse elsewhere. The party received a shiny new sword for their trouble as well.
To get an idea of the area and it’s people they headed to the tavern used by the fishermen of the village. They found that the food and drink had much to be desired though. Quick trips were made to the brewery to find out the issues with the beer. The brewer had issues in his love life that seem to be solved for now thanks to the help of Norrin. Shamash began a hunt for herbs to improve the fish stew. On this trip however a magical disturbance was discovered. Now the party has gathered to investigate this arcane mystery…

The party of adventurers found themselves incarcerated in a maximum security prison caravan on their way to an unknown destination. Despite their rebellious actions they could not gain freedom. That was until Shabu’Shabu and Shamash ripped out their chains from the wagon floor as a dragon duo attacked the caravan. The beast of burden pulling the wagon panicked in the battle and the wagon was dragged into the woods. After flying off a ledge the beast was freed and the wagon broken open. The group started to arm themselves. During their search for weaponry they came across a crystal that seemed to only change colors based on the direction it faced. The crystal seems to still hold more powers than they can access. Then suddenly they were ambushed by halfling stabbers. It was a hard fought battle, but the group prevailed. After searching the remains of their attackers the party got a badly needed rest that they hadn’t had since their incarceration.
The next morning the party tracked their way back to the caravan attack site. They found it had been picked clean with all of the bodies removed. Shabu’Shabu was able to track the scavengers back to their camp. More halflings had established a base at a cave.
Norrin brashly approached two halflings that had been tracking him and convinced them to try and cause a distraction at the camp. They failed miserably.
They then had an idea to summon an image of one of the spirits they worshipped, The Wolf Spirit. Garghoul provided the initial howl of the spirit and summoned an image of the spirit. Gootch used the powers granted by his ancestors to reign fire down on the area to add to the effect. Norrin, now disguised as a halfling shaman, instructed the halfling rabble to follow the spirit. Soturi, Shabu’Shabu and Shamash were adding pyrotechnics and sound effects to the distraction and at the first opportunity they entered the near empty cave. The majority of the rabble was convinced to battle each other to the death to seek out the champion, a practice not uncommon for halflings, allowing the rest of the party to join the other three in the cave.
Now the party faces Chief Binban and two of his most loyal warriors…
